My mom bought me a Stella just about like those in the pictures. 3d home design software torrent. This was in about 1962, and it was my first guitar. The strings were so high off the fret board, that my fingers really did bleed, sometimes. Only people who were addicted to playing, and who persevered, could actually make music on these five and dime store guitars.

I knew nothing about set-ups, lowering strings or anything. And, other than Gibson's, very expensive, only heavy gauge, the only brand of strings available were Black Diamond, which were heavy gauge, and turned my finger-tips black. The 'CHEAP' guitars for beginners today are amazingly good compared to back then. Custom gauge strings, in 1962, weren't even a popular concept.
